Abbotsford, BC
– Cascade Aerospace will hire up to 120
employees over the next few months to keep up with the increased
demand for aircraft maintenance and modification
services. The company will
recruit experienced aircraft maintenance engineers, avionics
technicians, interior technicians, cleaners, and support personnel,
as well as a number of apprentices who are recent graduates from
BCIT and UCFV. In addition, the company
will increase its internal training programs by over 30% in the
next year.
According to David Schellenberg, President of Cascade Aerospace,
the latest hiring is consistent with the company’s long
term plan for steady growth and is being driven by increased demand
from customers throughout North America.
“This is good news for the employees of Cascade, for
our current and future customers, and for our company.
The addition of these people will add more capacity to further
allow for the growth of our
business.”
However, the growth will not be without
challenges. According to Schellenberg, the
aerospace industry is experiencing a shortage of experienced
skilled workers in Canada. “We
will be hiring a number of apprentices, but we have a critical need
to hire experienced workers as well. We
will be recruiting across Canada for experienced aircraft
maintenance engineers, especially in the structures and avionics
specialties. Cascade, along with other
aerospace companies in BC, will continue to work closely with trade
schools such as BCIT and UCFV to develop joint programs that
encourage young people to enter the aircraft maintenance
field.”
Cascade Aerospace is one of the top MRO providers in North America,
supplying line and heavy maintenance services primarily to North
American airlines and aircraft leasing companies. The
company also provides engineering and modification services,
including major modifications such as cargo conversions and
specialty aircraft. Cascade’s family of
over 600 people is headquartered in a state-of-the-art, eight
narrow body bay facility at the Abbotsford International
Airport.
