CASCADE AEROSPACE AND HERC SOLUTIONS CELEBRATE ARRIVAL OF FIRST CC-130 HERCULES AIRCRAFT FOR MAINTENANCE

May 1st, 2006 : Abbotsford, BC (Website)
Cascade Aerospace today celebrated the arrival of the first CC-130 aircraft at Cascade’s state-of-the-art maintenance facility in Abbotsford, British Columbia under a $423.4 million, 6 year contract with the Government of Canada, to provide comprehensive maintenance support services for Canada’s fleet of 32 CC-130 Hercules aircraft.  Several hundred employees, industry representatives and government officials including representatives of Canada’s Air Force, were on hand for the event.

The Department of National Defence (DND) awarded the contract in October 2005 as part of its Optimized Weapon System Management (OWSM) program, which represents a new, performance-based approach to contracting by DND.   It is a rigorous contract requiring Cascade and Herc Solutions team members to provide program management, engineering, maintenance, material supply, and information systems support services to DND in accordance with specific performance measures.

“Cascade understands the critical role Canada’s military plays in missions around the globe and the strategic importance of ensuring that the Hercules fleet is mission ready,” said David Schellenberg, President of Cascade Aerospace.  “We are ready to commit our performance strengths – on-time, on-quality, on-budget delivery of aircraft – to work for the specific purpose of maximizing the mission availability of Canada’s CC-130 fleet.”

To mark the arrival of the first CC-130 Hercules aircraft scheduled for overhaul and maintenance the Aircrew and Brigadier General Terry Leversedge, Deputy Commander Mission Support & Training of 1 Canadian Air Division, symbolically handed the aircraft logbook over to Cascade’s President, David Schellenberg in a ceremony held at Cascade’s state-of-the-art facility.

“The men and women of Cascade Aerospace and Herc Solutions are honoured that DND selected our team to support their military operations and we are proud of the opportunity to put our collective maintenance expertise to work for the benefit of Canada’s military,” said Barry Marsden, Cascade CEO.

For the past 6 months, Cascade and its Herc Solutions team members have been preparing for the arrival of the first DND aircraft.  The Herc Solutions team was purposefully assembled to provide world class ‘best practices’ service support for the Canadian military from leading aerospace companies:

•Cascade Aerospace, the prime contractor, a leading Canadian aerospace
supplier of engineering, maintenance, repair, overhaul and modification
services;
•Marshall Aerospace, the world’s most experienced provider of C-130
engineering and maintenance support;
•Derco Aerospace, the world’s leading supplier of C-130 spares and
component repair and overhaul; and
•Standard Aero, an expert in electronic technical publications and an existing contractor to DND for C-130 engine maintenance.

The contract is creating over 100 new jobs, including new types of knowledge-based jobs, and approximately 250 Cascade and Herc Solutions people are required to support the CC-130 maintenance program, with most based at Cascade’s Abbotsford facility.  This contract represents a significant job creation and development opportunity for Abbotsford and the BC Aerospace industry.

“Cascade’s success has always been grounded by the dedication and professionalism of our employees and, working with DND and Herc Solutions members, are primed and eager to ensure Canada’s Hercules fleet is ”Mission Ready”, stated Schellenberg.

The multi-purpose CC-130 Hercules plane is considered the workhorse of the Canadian military and is used for transporting personnel and equipment, search and rescue, air-to-air refueling, and humanitarian support, and is currently supporting Canada’s mission in Afghanistan.
