CAE CONTRACTS CASCADE AEROSPACE TO BUILD C-130J FUSELAGE TRAINER FOR CANADA
August 7, 2009
Abbotsford, B.C. - Cascade Aerospace Inc. is pleased to announce it has been awarded a contract by CAE Inc. to design and manufacture a turnkey C-130J fuselage trainer for Canada’s Department of National Defence (DND). This new training device will provide the Air Force Loadmasters (aircrew) with the ability to efficiently and effectively load Canada’s incoming fleet of 17 new C-130J Super Hercules tactical airlift aircraft, and thereby help the Canadian Forces meet their many missions worldwide.
The C-130J fuselage trainer is one among several training solutions to be delivered to Canada by CAE. CAE is the prime contractor for Canada’s Operational Training Systems Provider (OTSP) program and will provide training systems and services for Canada’s fleet of C-130J aircraft, CH-47 medium-to-heavy lift helicopters, and potentially other aircraft platforms in the future. The contract relating to the C-130J training systems and services is the first contract awarded under OTSP.
CAE leads a “Canadian training solution” and is subcontracting work to companies from coast to coast including companies in the Maritimes, Québec, Ontario and British Columbia.
“It is exciting to partner with CAE, a world leader in training solutions, and become a contributor to the safety and operational effectiveness of the DND,” says David Schellenberg, Cascade Aerospace CEO. “This activity aligns with Cascade’s fleet support responsibility for Canada’s legacy C-130 fleet, where our goal is to help Canada meet its mission - everyday. The OTSP program will bring a new, world class training capability to Canada, and a new technical capability to Cascade and western Canada. Collectively we will be able to offer that capability to C-130J operators worldwide.”
“Cascade’s expertise on the C-130 and its experience in the maintenance and support of aircraft fleets are key elements for successfully delivering the fuselage trainer to DND, “ says Martin Gagné, Group President, Military Products, Training & Services, CAE. “Together, we will play an important role in preparing our Canadian Forces to be mission ready.”
"We want our men and women in uniform to have the best equipment, the best training and technology," said the Honourable Stockwell Day, Minister of International Trade, Asia Pacific Gateway and Regional Minister for British Columbia. "These strategic relationships stimulate the Canadian economy, while helping to ensure a more competitive Canadian industry."
